Herzegovina Cycling Route

The Herzegovina Cycling Trail is inspired by our best-selling tour and designed for cycling enthusiasts. Starting in Mostar, the route follows the first section of the Ćiro Trail along the Neretva River, visiting Blagaj, Žitomislići, stećci necropolis and Počitelj before ending in Čapljina. An optional second day explores the Trebižat River and the waterfalls of Kravice, Koćuša and Čeveljuša.

About the Tour

The Herzegovina Cycling Trail is the best way to explore the region around Mostar on two wheels. Starting in Mostar, the route heads south along the Neretva River, passing the Buna Channels, Blagaj, and the Dervish Tekke. Continue to Žitomislići Monastery and medieval stećci before reaching Čapljina, with the option to visit Počitelj and return to Mostar by train with bikes. A second day is available along the Trebižat River, visiting Čeveljuša, Koćuša, and Kravice waterfalls.

Tour Details

iHouse Travel provides all necessary information and support, along with fully equipped MTB or e-bikes for this self-guided adventure. Upon reaching Čapljina, returning to Mostar is possible by train or organized bike transfer. On request, an overnight stay in Čapljina can be arranged for an optional second day of cycling.

    • Discover the Buna Channels and the iconic 16th-century Blagaj Tekke, a Dervish monastery set at the stunning source of the Buna River. Nestled beneath dramatic cliffs, this natural spring is one of the most beautiful and powerful landmarks in Herzegovina.

  2. Zitomislici & Stecci

    • Visit the 16th-century Žitomislići Monastery, one of the most important Orthodox heritage sites in Herzegovina, surrounded by peaceful landscapes. Along the way, discover medieval stećci tombstones, unique stone monuments that reflect the region’s rich history and cultural legacy.

  3. Capljina & Pocitelj

    • Arrive in Čapljina, a key regional hub at the meeting point of rivers and landscapes in Herzegovina. From here, you may visit the historic Ottoman town of Počitelj with its fortress and stone architecture. Return to Mostar is possible by scenic train ride from Čapljina.

  4. Kravica waterfalls

    • An optional overnight stay in Čapljina allows you to extend your adventure with a second day of cycling along the Trebižat River. Discover a chain of breathtaking waterfalls, including Čeveljuša, Koćuša, and the world-famous Kravica Waterfall, one of Herzegovina’s most iconic natural attractions.

Cancellation policy

We will charge a cancellation fee of 100% if a booking is canceled 1 day or less before the event

We will charge a cancellation fee of 50% if a booking is canceled 3 days or less before the event

Safety and insurance

Before departure, all participants are required to sign a bike rental agreement and liability waiver. Additional liability insurance can be arranged upon request. A personal travel insurance covering Bosnia and Herzegovina is recommended and should be arranged in your country of origin.

  1. Bike transport by train from Čapljina to Mostar is available free of charge, provided you purchase a train ticket (15 BAM per person / approx. €8). Before boarding, the train conductor will provide all necessary instructions.

Despite the route being mostly asphalted, basic cycling skills and an average level of physical fitness are still required to comfortably complete a full day of riding.

What do I need to bring with me?

We recommend wearing padded cycling shorts and gloves for extra comfort, using sunscreen with adequate protection, bringing lip balm, and carrying extra water to stay properly hydrated throughout the ride.

What is the best time of the year for this activity?

Spring and autumn are the best seasons for cycling, as summer heat can make riding more challenging.

Yes, up to 24 hours before the tour, free of charge - subject to availability.

Yes! The itinerary is a recommended guide, but the experience is fully customizable to suit your preferences.

What is the right size of the group?

The experience is typically recommended for 2 participants or more. Solo travelers are also welcome.
